On 14–15 May 2026, teachers from Escola Veïnat, Escola Gegant del Rec and IES Vallvera in Salt travelled to Sofia, Bulgaria, together with the UdiGitalEdu research group from the Universitat de Girona, to participate in the latest international meeting of the MARIAN project – Integrating Montessori & Creative Technologies for Enhanced Math Education in Multicultural Schools.
Following their participation in the Training of Trainers held in Girona, the teachers implemented selected MARIAN lesson plans in their own classrooms over the following weeks. The meeting in Sofia provided an opportunity to present these experiences alongside colleagues from Greece, Bulgaria and Portugal, exchanging ideas on how the activities were adapted to different educational contexts and how students engaged with the proposed learning experiences.
Throughout the meeting, the teachers from the three Salt schools shared examples of classroom practice, reflected on the challenges and successes of implementation, and contributed valuable feedback for improving the MARIAN lesson plans and Teacher’s Guide. Their experiences illustrated how mathematics can become more meaningful when connected to hands-on exploration, creativity, movement, natural phenomena and digital technologies.

Together with the UdiGitalEdu team from the Universitat de Girona, the teachers also participated in collaborative workshops dedicated to refining the project’s educational resources. The discussions highlighted the importance of teacher reflection and international collaboration in ensuring that the MARIAN materials are flexible, inclusive and responsive to the realities of diverse classrooms.
The meeting reinforced the value of bringing together educators from different countries to learn from one another and co-create innovative approaches to mathematics education. The contributions from the Salt schools, supported by the Universitat de Girona, will help shape the final version of the MARIAN Teacher’s Guide and support the next phase of teacher training across Europe.
